Head of House

David Perreault and his wife and partner, Heidi Nakajima, are heads of house for Simmons Hall. David is the Joseph F. and Nancy P. Keithley Professor at MIT's Department Electrical Engineering & Computer Science and Heidi is associate professor in Otolaryngology-Head and Neck Surgery at Harvard Medical School.

David grew up in the Boston area, went to Boston University, and then completed his SM and PhD at MIT, where he has remained. David’s research focuses on design, manufacturing, and control techniques for power electronic systems and components and their use in a wide range of applications. He and his students in the Power Electronics Research Group work to advance the efficiency and performance of all kinds of electrical energy systems such as renewables and green energy. He also co-founded Eta Devices and Eta Wireless, startup companies focusing on reducing the energy consumption of cellular base stations, mobile phones, and Wi-Fi system

Kaito, their Portuguese water dog, has become a familiar sight to students who visit David’s office. Kaito has been known to attend classes (though he often falls asleep) and is a master at catching Frisbees in Killian Court.
