Whether you’re heading home for the summer, graduating, or welcoming a new adventure, the information below will ensure your move-out is stress (and cleaning fee!) free.

Commencement volunteer move out by 12:00 pm (noon) ET

Need a couple more days?
Submit a Spring Housing Extension Request form, to request a one- or two-day housing extension. These requests are subject to review and are not guaranteed to be approved.
Preparing for your move
Advanced preparation is key to a smooth moving day.
Consider logistics
Consider how these logistics will be incorporated into your moving plan:
- Your finals schedule
- Travel arrangements (Like the MIT Airport Shuttle)
- Off-campus storage or shipping arrangements
- Moving boxes, and
- Family or friends who may help you move.
Pack your belongings
Ensure you gather all of your belongings! Check your drawers, restroom, and other spaces because items left behind will be thrown away and you will be charged a cleaning fee. If it wasn’t there when you arrived, it should not remain when you depart!
Remove all trash
Please remove all trash and ensure you have not left any items in common storage spaces like country kitchens. Deposit all trash and recycling in the appropriate area.
Final walk-through
Perform one last check to ensure you have gathered all of your belongings. Ensure that all bedroom furniture belonging to the residence hall is accounted for.
Check out at the front desk
When you’re ready to leave, lock your door and head to the front desk. Staff will collect your room key and confirm that you have checked out of your residence for the semester.
