  • Participate in academic department or summer programs such as the Undergraduate Research Opportunities Program (UROP);
  • Have jobs or internships in the Boston-Cambridge area related to their field of study at MIT; or
  • Require on-campus housing while transitioning to a summer conference group.

Please note that if you become ineligible for fall registration during the summer, you must move out of their summer assignment upon notification of your change in status.

Cross-registered Wellesley students interested in Summer Housing at MIT should complete the Wellesley Application Form by the date above.

If you do not receive a housing assignment through the lottery, or if you apply after the above deadline, you will be placed on the summer housing waiting list. Assignments will be made as space becomes available, but we are unable to guarantee a summer housing assignment. We encourage you to sublicense from an MIT community member in graduate housing.

Moving

Moving in

  • Housing & Residential Services will email you with your specific move dates and transition details. You are expected to move on the date stated in the email.
    • You must be present on campus during the move period.
    • Failure to move on the assigned move date will result in revocation of summer housing and a possible $595 late checkout charge.
    • All residents are expected to complete their move on their scheduled move date.
  • If you do not have a current spring term assignment, you will receive specific guidance from Housing & Residential Services via email regarding your move dates.
  • If you accept a summer housing assignment after April 30, we will make every effort to continue housing you until summer move-over, but we cannot guarantee there will be space. Please apply for summer housing before the priority deadline to ensure bridge housing until summer move-over.

Moving out

If you do not move by the dates listed above, you will be assessed a fee to your MITPay account. If you are traveling during the move period, or if you would like to move out of your summer housing assignment early, please take all personal belongings with you prior to your departure. You may also consider storing your belongings off-site

Room Assignment

All summer residents will live in single rooms and will not have roommates. Rooms will be assigned by Housing & Residential Services.

The majority of our on-campus undergraduate residence halls are not equipped with full-building air conditioning systems. You are welcome to bring fans as well as in-unit air conditioning devices. Please connect with the House Operations Manager for your summer housing assignment for further guidance.

Dining

In-house dining areas are closed during the summer months.

You will have access to in-house shared kitchen areas to cook meals and store perishable items in shared refrigerators. There are a number of local grocery and food options. If you are in need of food assistance, you should connect with Student Support Services.
