Building Switch Lottery

Two switch lotteries are offered for current on-campus undergraduate residents who are fully registered to take courses and who are interested in moving to another on-campus building for the next term.

• If you wish to move to another building for the spring semester, you should enter the Spring Building Switch Lottery. The application is typically available in October.
• If you wish to move for the following Fall semester, you should note your preference in the housing intent form.

Fill out a building switch lottery application within the Housing Portal to share your building preferences, and acknowledge that the lottery process is binding. We make every effort to assign you your first preference, but there is a possibility that you may get switched into any one of the residence halls you list on their lottery form. If you would only consider moving to one specific building, feel free to list only that building on your switch request. 

Before you apply, please be absolutely certain that you will be willing to accept the results. ONLY list buildings that you will want to move into, as the process is binding.

If you receive a new housing reassignment through the switch lottery, you must accept that assignment and move. It is not possible to decline the assignment you receive.

Building switch only changes what building you are assigned to. Individual room assignments are made by student room assignment chairs (RACs) in each residence hall after the lottery results are released. The lottery does not take special requests for room types or locations (unless there is a previously approved supplemental housing request). 

Moves granted during the spring housing switch lottery have a move-in date during the Independent Activities Period (IAP) in January. If you will not be on campus during IAP, do not apply to the spring switch lottery. 

If you are granted a change through the housing intent process, you would simply move in to your new assignment during undergraduate move in. Students granted a move in either switch lottery will receive an email with their exact move date. No moves are permitted before these dates.
