The team from MIT Housing & Residential Services (HRS) is available to assist you— whether you’re a prospective resident who's curious about one of our on-campus residence halls, or if you're a current resident experiencing a room lockout, or have a question about billing— we’ve got you covered!

Members are the HRS team are available to assist prospective and current campus residents by email at residence@mit.edu, or by phone at (617) 253-2811. HRS business hours are 8:00 am to 4:00 pm ET, Monday through Friday, excluding Institute Holidays.  

Appointments & Walk-in Office Hours

If you require assistance regarding housing processes, assignments or billing, HRS staff are available to assist.  Appointments (either virtual or in-person) are encouraged, and requests for an appointment between the hours of 8:00 am to 4:00 pm may be sent via email to connect_with_hrs@mit.edu. Walk-in office hours, which are primarily to support urgent issues, are available Monday through Friday between 10:00 am and 4:00 pm ET in Building W59-200.  Please note that our offices are closed during Institute Holidays.  

Drop-in Virtual Office Hours

Have a housing-related question?  HRS staff are available to answer residents’ questions virtually on Zoom every Tuesday (10:00 to 11:00 am ET) and Thursday (2:00 to 3:00 pm ET), excluding Institute holidays.  To join the conversation, please visit the HRS Zoom Room (MIT credentials required).  No appointment necessary.

Non-Urgent Maintenance Requests

All non-urgent maintenance requests may be reported online as a Service Request through the Atlas website (MIT certificates or credentials required).  Submitting a Service Request ticket is important for resolution tracking and proper follow-up. 

Urgent Maintenance Requests

Residents who encounter an urgent maintenance request (i.e. loss of heat, flooding etc.) may contact HRS Operations (“Unit-12”) at (617) 253-1500 or 3-1500 from any MIT phone. On evenings, weekends, and holidays, residents may also contact Unit-12 via phone. 

Front Desk Staff & Residential Security

Within each residence hall, Front Desk Workers are available to assist residents between 8:00 am and 12:00 am each day.  Security staff are also available at the front desks of undergraduate residence halls, from 8:00 am to 12:00 am, to provide access control, guest check-ins and lock-out key services.  If you need timely assistance after-hours when a front desk or security staff are unavailable, please dial (617) 253-1500 to ask for “Unit-12.”  If you have any building access- or security-related questions, please email the security supervisors at housingsecurity@mit.edu.

Evening Operations

Dorm Patrol (“Nightwatch”) performs safety and security patrols across MIT’s residential system between the hours of 12:00 am and 8:00 am.  The Unit-12 team is also available after-hours to support operations and maintenance requests.  In the event of an emergency, please contact MIT Police at (617) 253-1212 or dial 100 from any MIT phone.
